Weekly Services

The Islamic Institute of New York conducts regular programs throughout the week. These programs include:

Special Services for Tuesdays – Dua Tawassul and Evening Prayer

Special Services for Thursdays – Dua Kumayl and Evening Prayer

Special Services for Fridays – Friday Prayer

Special Services for Saturdays – Weekend Program with Evening Prayer

In addition to this, the Islamic Institute also conducts Prayer Services for the Razi School for afternoon prayers, every day of the week, including the Friday Prayer.

Religious Services for Individuals

The Islamic Institute of New York provides Religious services for the community as a whole and for the individual members as well. Such services include Marriage Services, Funeral and Memorial Services, Aqiqah Ceremonies as well as other Family Sponsored Events.

IINY Cemetery

IINY wishes to inform its members and visitors that it has recently purchased a section of the burial ground at the Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, located in Eastern Long Island. Islamic Marriage and Divorce

The office at the Islamic Institute of New York offers various religious services to its members and the larger Muslim community. The religious services include but are not limited to: Islamic marriage (Aghd), divorce, funeral and burial services, memorial services, etc.

We would like to inform you that the Islamic Institute provides counseling before each marriage and divorce. This service is available to assist our community members in making these important decisions in their lives.

Islamic Marriage (Aghd):

Part of the services offered at the Islamic Institute of New York is Islamic marriage, Aghd. In order to be able to use this service, interested patrons need to follow the below instructions:

  1. Contact the Institute and make an appointment at least a week before your intended marriage date.
  2. Make sure all the required documents and preparations are ready prior to the appointment. Please refer to the section below for a detailed list of the requirements.
  3. You will be asked for a donation made to the Institute in return for the services received
  4. If you wish to also have an Aghd Spread (Sofreh Aghd), please notify the office at least one week prior to your appointment date. You will have the option to either bring your own spread or ask the office to prepare you one.

Conditions and required documents:

  1. Original identity certificate (Shenasnameh) of the bride and groom.
    1. New York State ID of the bride and groom. (Or the ID of the state they reside in)
    2. Two copies of the first page of the identity certificate of the bride and groom (4 copies in total).
    3. Legal marriage age in the State of New York is 18. Both the bride and the groom must be 18.
    4. If this marriage is the bride and/or the groom’s second marriage, they are required to provide a copy of the second page of their identity certificate as well.
      1. In order to register their second marriage, the following documents will be required as well: a divorce certificate or a proof of their ex-spouse’s death.
      2. Two copies of individual photos (SIZE) of the bride and groom (four in total).
      3. A copy of the bride and groom’s National ID (cart-e-melli), back and forth.
      4. The original identity certificate of the bride’s father. This is required in order to ensure that the bride’s father is alive.
        1. If it is the bride’s first marriage, the presence of the bride’s father and his permission is required. He is also required to sign the marriage certificate.
        2. In the case where the bride’s father has deceased, a copy of the death certificate, issued by the state’s registry office, is required.
        3. In the case where the bride’s father is against the marriage, the bride will have to refer to the court in order to receive a “marriage permission” letter and submit it to the office.
        4. In the case where the bride’s father is missing or no accurate information is available, a “marriage permission” issued by the court will be required.
        5. If the bride’s father is in prison, it is required that, with the permission of the court, the office’s secretary visits the father in order to obtain his approval and signature.

Islamic Divorce:

In the case of the unfortunate event of divorce, interested patrons will need to follow the below instructions:

  1. Contact the Institute and make an appointment at least a week before your intended divorce date.
  2. Make sure all the required documents and preparations are ready prior to the appointment. Please refer to the section below for a detailed list of the requirements.
  3. You will be asked for a donation made to the Institute in return for the services received.

Please make sure to have the following documents ready before filing for a divorce:

  1. Marriage certificate
  2. Identity certificate or national ID card of the husband
  3. Identity certificate or national ID card of the wife
  4. A power of attorney delegation from the registry office. (This isn’t necessary, unless power of attorney in the case of divorce is given to the wife by her husband).
  5. Opinions of two married witnesses.
  6. A proof that the wife is not pregnant.

 

Renting IINY’s Premises for special occasions:
Interested community members and patrons are able to rent IINY’s premises for religious ceremonies and events. These occasions include but are not limited to: Aghd (Islamic Marriage), khatm (funeral ceremony), and commemorating religious events.
The areas that are available for rent are:
Prayer area (Shabestan): The prayer room has a maximum carrying capacity of 227 people. Equipped with speakers, a drop-down screen, and a projector, it is a great choice for holding religious or memorial events.
Auditorium: With a maximum carrying capacity of 324 people, the auditorium at IINY is ideal for all kinds of religious and cultural celebration, especially Islamic marriage ceremonies. The room is equipped with a stage, complete sound system, speakers, drop-down screen, and a projector.
Kitchen: The kitchen at IINY is equipped with a complete set of kitchen and cooking appliances, and has the serving capacity of up to 1000 people.
Gym: The gym, located on the second floor of the Institute, has a maximum carrying capacity of 190 people. It is equipped with a basketball court and volleyball net, which makes it an excellent space for sports events.
Lunch room: The lunchroom has a maximum carrying capacity of 192 people. It is equipped with sitting areas and is perfect for catering events.
Please note that in order to rent the premises, interested patrons will be asked to make a donation to IINY.
In order to rent any of the available spaces, you should contact the office at IINY and request a form. Once you have filled out the form, you will submit it to the board for their approval.
